Barbara Hadley Smith is now retired from a 30-year career in communications, politics and government. She has served as press secretary for Louisville Mayor Harvey Sloane; Lexington Mayor Pam Miller; Attorney General Ben Chandler; Governor Martha Layne Collins; and Dr. Grady Stumbo. She held the position of Director of Communications for what is now the Cabinet for Health and Family Services and Director of Government Relations for Alliant Health System (now Norton Healthcare) in Louisville. As a board member of the Kentucky Center for Public Issues, she worked on healthcare issues, including the study on health values in the state of Kentucky. Currently raising grandchildren with her husband Joe, Ms. Smith spends her free time doing community volunteer work, particularly for the Franklin County Women’s Shelter.
