Charlotte F. Beason, Ed.D., RN, NEA, is the Executive Director of the Kentucky Board of Nursing which regulates the practice ofKentucky’s 66,000 nurses. Dr. Beason came to KBN after a career with the Department of Veterans Affairs, during which she directed a number of national programs with direct impact on workforce policies for the nation’s healthcare professionals. She also initiated and monitored programs and policies that guided the practice of nearly 37,000 registered nurses and 18,000 licensed practical nurses. She was a member of the Clinton Administration’s Health Care Reform Task Force and, as a LEGIS Fellow, she completed a six-month fellowship in the United States Congress. Dr. Beason is an active proponent of higher education, serving as Chair of the Board of Trustees of Strayer University and as a member of the Board of Trustees of both BereaCollege and CentralPennsylvaniaCollege. She was elected a founding member and later the Chair of the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, an independent agency accrediting baccalaureate and higher programs of nursing education across the nation. A Kentucky native, Dr. Beason graduated from BereaCollege, completed an M.S. in psychiatric nursing at BostonUniversity, and earned her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology and Public Practice from HarvardUniversity. She also holds a certificate in Mediation and Conflict Resolution from the Justice Center of Atlanta, Georgia.
