David B Stevens, M.D. is a graduate of DePauw University and Northwestern University Medical School. After completing his residency in Surgery and Orthopaedic Surgery in Ann Arbor, he returned to his native Kentucky, where he entered private practice and joined the voluntary faculty at the new UK College of Medicine. In 1980 he became Chief of Staff at the Shriners Hospital for Children and a regular appointment to the UK medical faculty. He was also Chief of Staff and Director of Rehabilitation Services at the Cardinal Hill Hospital.
When he retired in 1993, Dr. Stevens was elected to the Council of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government. He has served as president of the Fayette County Medical Society, Kentucky Orthopaedic Society, The Association of Bone and Joint Surgeons, The Kentucky Commission for Children with Special Health Care Needs, The Shrine Surgeons Association, and the Rocky Mountain Trauma Association. He has also served on the Kentucky Board of Health and the Fayette County Board of Health, and as an alternate and then delegate to the AMA. Dr. Stevens is currently Board Chairman of the Kentucky Blood Center and president of the Blue Grass Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He has a post-retirement active appointment to the UK faculty, where he attends the Veteran’s Hospital, serves as chairman of the Student Financial Aid Committee and teaches gross anatomy.
