Susan Stokes has pursued a long interest in politics and healthcare issues. As a State Representative in the early 1990s, she served on two national health care task forces, as well as the Health and Welfare Committee of the Kentucky House of Representatives, where she proposed reforms related to health information and increasing the ability of individuals to take responsibility for their own health and healthcare. The proposals were not allowed to come to a vote by Don Blandford, the Speaker of the House. She has actively supported advocacy for reforming the process of redistricting for state and federal representation and health care reform proposals.
Ms. Stokes owns two small companies, HMR Associates, Inc., and Access Community Assistance, Inc., that provide rehabilitation services for individuals with brain injury and case management for individuals with disability. She also has served on state task forces on regulatory changes in Medicaid.
